Occupational participation and engagement of woman experiencing premenstrual syndrome: A qualitative study

Introduction: Premenstrual syndrome is commonly experienced by women of reproductive age and encompasses somatic, psychological behavioural symptoms that recur during the luteal stage menstrual cycle resolves or after menstruation. Although premenstrual has gained growing interest in recent years, experience living with not yet been explored from an occupational perspective. Method: This qualitative study used exploratory descriptive design to gain a deeper understanding lived through lens. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews four symptoms. Each interview was transcribed verbatim thematically analysed. Findings: Three themes identified: (1) disturbance, (2) social impairment disengagement, (3) importance self-awareness engage occupations. Women difficulties impacted their ability occupations including self-care, productivity leisure, interfering routine interpersonal relationships. A level awareness considered important manage Conclusion: The findings this are relevant impact on daily for tailoring future interventions address needs syndrome.
